Closing Ceremony of the Digitization of 17th to 20th Meranaw Javi Manuscripts
Last February 16, 2019 marked the Closing Ceremonies of the Digitization of 17th to 20th Meranaw Javi Manuscripts at the University Museum. Mindanao State University (MSU) Officials, Grupo Kalinangan, Inc (GKI) officials, Bureau of Cultural Heritage (BCH) ARMM officials, stakeholders and University Museum employees attended the memorable event.
Vice President for Administration and Finance Atty. Jamaloden Basar attended this historical event on behalf of MSUS President Dr. Habib W. Macaayong. GKI President Mr. Joel Aldor also graced the occasion. BCH ARMM was represented by Ms. Nor-ain I. Lambitan.
The museum staff welcomed the guests with their usual warmth and sweet smiles. University Museum Director Linang Macabalang Cabugatan, Ph.D, a proactive member of the digitization team, oversaw the program.
The joint digitization project was initiated by the Grupo Kalinangan, Inc. (GKI), a non-profit group that had the passion and commitment to build a gateway to the historical and remarkable manuscripts. The project, the first of its kind, aimed at digitizing manuscripts such as genealogies, religious books, treaties and literary works of the Meranaws. Henceforth, scholars, academic researchers and historians can access these manuscripts.
The GKI also made possible the collaboration among distinguished institutions, the Mindanao State University Main Campus and Bureau of Cultural Heritage, ARMM, with their partners, the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development in The Netherlands, The Whiting Foundation of the United States and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
One of the solemn parts of the program was the PowerPoint presentation of the digitized output presented by GKI member Mr. Jason Muhammad Cristobal. But the main event was the turnover of the digitized copies of manuscripts to the stakeholders, namely: University Museum Director Linang Macabalang Cabugatan, Ph.D , BCH-ARMM, Amina Macabiro, Pundato Mangandog Sharief, Nasser Sharief, Nor-Ain Lambitan, Decamping Salsila and Alima Badriah.
After the closing remarks, the guests were treated to a sumptuous Pagana Meranaw.
