MSU partners with the LGU of Brgy. Raya, Balindong, Lanao del Sur in Tilapia stocking of Lake Lanao

In commemoration of the 57th founding anniversary of the Mindanao State University, the College of Fisheries in cooperation with the Office of the President, conducted the Ceremonial Fish Stocking Activity in Lake Lanao last August 31, 2018, 6:00 in the morning at Barangay Raya, Balindong, Lanao del Sur.
A total of 60,000 Tilapia species was stocked at the lakeshore by the MSU Officials headed by the University President Dr. Habib W. Macaayong, who was represented by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Dr. Cesar A. dela Seña, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Florencio D. Recoleto Jr., and College Dean Prof. Evelyn C. Moldez together with the officials of the Municipal Government of Balindong led by Honorable Mayor Benjamen M. Bagul and Brgy. Captain Rohaida Ramos. A number of fishermen were also present at the event where they witnessed the ceremonial stocking carried out with the hope that the quantity of Tilapia in the Lake will increase.
A short program was also held at the Barangay Hall of Raya where the Local Chief Executive and other LGU Officials expressed their sincere gratitude to Mindanao State University for initiating such activity that is committed to the protect the stocks through responsible and selective fisheries. On the other hand, the University through the College of Fisheries and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension extends its commitment to develop linkage with LGU-BALINDONG by conducting development programs that will benefit their local fisher folk.
The fish stocking ceremony has been an annual extension activity of the University through the initiative of the College of Fisheries to augment the dwindling fish populations in the Lake, thus helping the marginalized Meranaw fishermen in sustaining their fisheries livelihood activities.
