The friendship games held on August 27, 2019 at the court of the Dimaporo Gymnasium brought together the basketball players of Mindanao State University-Main Campus Fastballers, Armed Forces of the Philippines’ 82nd Infantry Battalion (AFP-82nd IB), Armed Forces of the Philippines-12th Civil Military Operations (AFP-12th CMO), and Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) deployed in Marawi City.
The event was held in commemoration of MSU’s 58th founding anniversary. It aims to strengthen the camaraderie between the participating units and to showcase the spirit of sport, that according to the MSU System President Habib Watamama Macaayong, is planting the seeds of hope and solidarity, and of peace and development while having fun.
Atty. Jamaloden Basar, VP for Administration and Finance and Chairman of this year’s Steering Committee, quoted the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson that inspired the athletes, “Win as if you were used to it, and lose as if you enjoyed it for a change. That is sportsmanship.”
The four participating teams’ stellar performances resulted in some exciting close matches, considering the fact that most of the players are in their 40s. At the end, AFP 82nd Infantry Battalion was hailed Champion. PNP Special Action Force notched the 2nd Place. Copping the 3rd Place was the MSU Fastballers; the last placer was AFP CMO-12.
