As part of the improvement and promotion of the University’s sports program, with the theme “MSU at 58: Primed for Transcending Present Peace and Development Efforts Leveraged by Quality Education Geared to Global Goals, ” the 2019 University Intramural Games were successfully held on August 23 at Dimaporo Gymnasium. It was spearheaded by the College of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation with Prof. Nasroding T. Bashier, Director of the Department of Athletics.
The celebration started with the welcome address of Dr. Hendley A. Adlawan, Dean of CSPEAR In her speech, she said, “The highlights of this event are camaraderie, sportsmanship, and multi talent of the students.” She also added that, ‘’Through sports we can attain unity and peace in MSU’’.
The holding of the annual Intramural Games is one of the various avenues where the vision of MSUS Pres. Habib W. Macaayong to promote sports education for the students not only for them to have a balanced lifestyle but to become globally competitive in all aspects. The MSU System spearheaded by Pres. Habib Macaayong has started this development through various projects such as the rubberizing of the old oval track, repairing and replacing of equipment and facilities up to the supplying of new computers and a service car.
The guest speaker, at the event, Hon. Jamil Faisal Saro Adiong, President, SK Panlalawigang Pederasyon Board Member, Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Province of Lanao del Sur, emphasized that not only do sports foster sportsmanship, peace and unity but also ‘’the message of sacrifice is a very important ingredient to success,” he said. He encouraged the youth to do their best through many failures, to recognize that there pain and mistakes to experience because ‘’In every challenge, there are no such things as losers, but winners and learners,’’ he added. Furthermore, he exhorted the athletes to embody the message and essence of sportsmanship and integrity as he reminded them “Aanhin mo ang championship kung hindi ka champion sa paningin ng mga tao? ’’
The audience was entertained through the UIG ceremonial Dance Presentation performed by Bangkaw Dance Troupe. As part of tradition and like other sports competitions, the urn was lit to officially start the competition.
